Happy New Year (I know it’s already January 5th but better late than never)! January is often considered to be the month of fresh starts and a time of great possibility. On the concept of possibility Christopher Bollas wrote in 1987, “it is a person, place, thing, or idea that lights you up not exactly because of what it is, but because of the possibilities it represents; something which promises to transform the self”.
The change of year, although realistically not that big of a deal, is refreshing and always brings a sense of hope that maybe this will be your year. It may not, but if it provides you with the motivation you need to get shit done, go with it!
After going with the flow throughout December, it’s time to get going. This month, or until January 23rd at least, my new year’s motivation will be focused towards my university exams. It’s not going to be fun. By the end of a long revision session I feel like naming my notes pieceofshit.pdf on my MacBook and having a good cry. But, it unfortunately needs to be done in order to work towards my future goals. And as January continues, I’ll use the new year as a motivating force to focus on the bigger picture and not fret about the small inconveniences that come my way.
